Motorola Wilder: Yet another dust and water smartphone

Taking cues for Motorola Defy, the new Wilder is dust proof, water resistant and has secondary OLED display for notifications.

Motorola has launched a dust and water resistant smartphone — Wilder . The New Wilder smartphone comes has 2.8-inch touchscreen with a secondary notification display.

Appearing to be an inexpensive version of Motorola Defy, the new Wilder is aimed at the social network aficionados as it integrates the social network accounts like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube. The device has been launched in UK and as of now there's no clarity on when does the company intend to make it available for rest of the world.

Both mobile handsets offer Nokia's unique Easy Swap function for smarter multiple SIM management, largest in category expandable memory capabilities (32GB for Nokia C2-00) and enhanced music capabilities.

Nokia has launched the C2-00 and X1-01 dual SIM phones for the Indian market.

Unveiling the new phones, Vipul Sabharwal, director sales, Nokia India, said, "We are very proud to present Nokia C2-00 and Nokia X1-01 that meet stringent quality standards and have set new benchmarks in the mobile internet and music space in the entry level dual SIM category."

Both devices come with Nokia's innovative services including Nokia Life Tools which provide consumers with a wide range of information covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment.

Nokia C2-00

The Nokia C2-00 have the Easy Swap feature, which offers consumers the convenience of changing SIM cards without the need to turn off the phone or remove the battery. Just open the SIM door at the side of the phone and swap your SIMs.

With the Nokia C2-00, users can also browse the internet, read emails and enjoy instant messaging with either SIM card.

At a whopping 32 GB expandable memory, the Nokia C2-00 lets you keep thousands of photos, videos and music files with you all the time. The intuitive Nokia C2-00 also remembers the settings for up to five separate SIM cards.

Nokia X1-01

Nokia X1-01 comes with loud sound and great music clarity, claims the company. According to Nokia, its jumbo battery delivers upto 36 hours of continued music playback. The in-built loudspeakers provide sound output at a whopping 106 phon.

Nokia X1-01 comes with 16 GB of memory support. Its music player allows consumers to select songs and create favourite playlists.

The device also allows users to personalise their dual SIM experience with their own SIM name, call orSMS settings, logo, ringtone or music. It remembers the settings for up to five separate SIM cards. It has an innovative 'cost tracker' application to help consumers control their calling expenses.

Nokia X1-01 also comes pre-loaded with Nokia Money to help deliver financial independence to entry consumers.

Will the Google Nexus S have a curved display?

Following yesterday's appearance of the Nexus S comes a bit of odd gossip - its display is curved. In the middle, the phone is thinner than at the top and bottom, making the whole screen concave, it's not just a chin.

Apparently, Samsung did some research and concluded that concave displays have better usability than flat displays - or at least give the impression of better usability. This technology isn't new - the rumorstates that Samsung has been working on it for a while and they even got Sprint interested in it.

The deal fell through because Samsung couldn't manufacture enough curved displays to fill Sprints needs for this holiday season. So, what is this display doing on the Nexus S? It could be better - a hands on will decide that - but if Samsung really can't manufacture enough, then the Nexus S doesn't stand a chance of becoming a mass market device?

The Nexus One didn't sell very well, so Google might be expecting similar sale numbers from the Nexus S. Or has Samsung somehow solved the manufacturing problem?

Either way, we're always interested in innovation and we're eager to find out how a curved display would affect usability and pocketability. It could be the best thing since capacitive displays or it could just end up an oddity in touch phone design (like circular displays).

Motorola BACKFLIP and CLIQ get US-only Android 2.1 update

Windows Phone 7 features USB tethering support after all

Wasn't the recently launched Windows Phone 7 platform missing support for USB tethering? As it turns out, it packs that after all - some guys managed to enable it on a Samsung Omnia 7.

The Windows Phone 7 is still quite immature and, currently, the devices based on it lack plenty of goodies that even some feature phones could offer you, like USB tethering.

But now you could bring the USB tethering back to your WP7 device's specs sheet.

Well, as long as you have a Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 or a Samsung Focus. The procedure is quite simple by the way, just follow the source link below to read the instructions.

You only need to enter the Service menu of the handset and tweak a few settings and you'll have the USB tethering enabled on your Omnia 7.

This will allow you to use your handset as a 3G modem.

There might be some other tricks to enable it on WP7 smartphones by other phone makers beside Samsung but those are yet to be revealed.

3 million Samsung Galaxy S devices shipped across the US

Yesterday, while announcing the Verizon-bound Samsung Continuum, a company spokesperson revealed that the number of Galaxy S smartphones sold in the US has already reached the impressive 3 million units.

Android-powered HTC Paradise is a QWERTY slider for AT&T

Yet another Android smartphone leaked today, courtesy of the FCC test shots. The QWERTY-packing side-slider HTC Paradise is a mid-range device, designed for AT&T. There is a slight chance though that the handset was canceled before it ever reached mass production.

HTC Legend gets Froyo, X10 mini and mini pro taste Eclair

It’s raining deserts as three Android handsets are about to get updated to a new version of the Google platform. HTC Legend is getting the Froyo update in the coming weeks, while the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini and mini pro have already started migrating to Eclair.

Those Sony Ericsson updates are kinda like city buses – you wait for ages for one and then three show up at the same time.

The flagship XPERIA X10 only got updated last week and now two of the other three members of the family are joining it. The QWERTY-packing X10 mini pro and the super compact X10 mini are already getting the over-the-air updates in some regions, while worldwide availability should follow soon.

There is no information yet on when exactly the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 will follow the footsteps of its brothers but it shouldn’t take too long now we hope.

The HTC Legend owners also have a reason to smile today as the Taiwanese company confirmed through its Facebook page that the aluminum-clad device is about to get Froyo “in the coming weeks”. It’s only about the unbranded devices as the update for the carrier-specific versions will take a while longer.
